The Lantern Rouge was formed in 2015 when a group of cyclists stumbled into the European sport of cyclocross. It started with the Ontario spring classic, Paris-to-Ancaster. The often-muddy, always technical point-to-point race had this group of friends hooked, looking for any opportunity to ride off-road on drop bars. So instead of organizing group rides, they started meeting at a local park to practice turning in the grass or riding through sandy playgrounds.
Fast forward to 2023, The Lantern Rouge has evolved into a diverse and multi-discipline race team competing at the provincial and national levels. As a not-for-profit cycling program, the team is designed to promote and support grassroots sport in Canada by removing practical and financial obstacles to bicycle racing
